Veleta: Lahaye Media co-producing the biopic of Spain’s first female soccer player

Zoe Bonafonte stars in this true story currently filming in Andalusia, directed by Paco Torres and co-produced between Spain and Argentina

A true story almost forgotten

In early 20th-century Málaga, a young working-class woman named Ana “Nita” Carmona Ruiz made a radical decision: she bound her chest, hid her hair and assumed a male identity to play soccer. For decades, her teammates kept her secret. Nita Carmona was Spain’s first female soccer player — and possibly the world’s first — forced to pass as a man to pursue her passion, while also facing charges of disturbing public order.

That nearly forgotten story is the heart of Veleta, a Spain-Argentina co-production currently shooting in Andalusia. Lahaye Media is part of the project as co-producer, bringing its comprehensive image post-production, color correction and DCP mastering operation to the table.

A top-tier team

The film is directed and co-written by Paco Torres, with a screenplay co-authored by Amaya Muruzábal, creator of the series Hernán and showrunner of Prime Video hit Red Queen. The lead role goes to Zoe Bonafonte, Goya-nominated for El 47, who plays Nita Carmona. The cast also includes Goya winner Dani Rovira and Vikings actor Moe Dunford.

Behind the camera, the project brings together production companies with proven track records in Latin American and Ibero-American cinema: Blend Studios, M Content — Amaya Muruzábal’s company — Nephilim Producciones and Buenos Aires-based Lahaye Media. Nephilim’s credits include Daniel Hendler’s Venice-selected A Loose End, Manuel Martín Cuenca’s Andrea’s Love and Gracia Querejeta’s Invisibles.

Lahaye Media: production and post-production at the service of the project

Lahaye Media combines production with a sizeable post-production operation, with nearly 300 audiovisual productions in its track record, including titles for Disney+, Prime Video and HBO Max. On Veleta, that dual capacity is brought to bear on a story that demands the highest technical standards: from DCP mastering to the color correction that defines the visual palette of 1920s Málaga.

Institutional backing and production underway

The project has institutional backing from Spain’s ICAA and the Málaga Provincial Council, alongside private capital and support from RTVA, Andalusia’s public broadcaster. Principal photography kicked off during the summer of 2026 at various locations across the province of Málaga.

For Lahaye Media, Veleta is another step forward in its commitment to internationally ambitious Latin American and Ibero-American cinema: projects that combine historical relevance, top-tier talent and a full film and series production pipeline that runs from the shoot through to final DCP delivery.
